What a Wedding!

Hola Amigos!

Last weekend we went to Xela and San Andres Xejul to a wedding of one of our friends. Let's say it was quite an experience...

Waiting for the service to start.

Waiting...

Stepping into a new life.

This is the inside of the church. It is an evangelical church. Since the late 1970s evangelical churches in Guatemala have been on the rise and today Guatemala has the highest percentage of evangelicals in Latin America.

Taking seats in front of the altar.

This is priest number one.

This is priest number two. He said things like: "And if you think that your wife is a piece of furniture and you want to kick her, don't do it, because she is more than that!" I agree.

Some impressions from the service.

Cool kids...

What are we fishing for here? Souls... or... ?

The service did last more than 3 hours...

So sorry...

The happy couple after the ceremony.

This is the catholic church.

This was the take-away gift. Honorably placed now in our house bar.

Carry on...

Hasta pronto amigos!

On the Cemetery in Santiago...

Hola Amigos,
last weekend we enjoyed a very Guatemalan "Day of the Dead"... see for yourself!

On the cemetery...

Some quite political messages on the kites too...

"Consequences of looking for the American dream" = death, and "Social Conflict:

Messages about the "destruction of cultural identity" are those, and they reflect some of the most pressing problems Guatemalan society faces today.

And some kites were more... well, commercial:

Not a street vendor, a cemetery vendor.

And here come some of my favorite characters of the day:

The tough guys...

Their role model Mr. Cool...

And... no comment.

Oh yeah, we were tired too afterwards.

Our new ride... yeah baby!

The picnic afterwards... with great wine and cheese, mmm!

Hasta pronto amigos!

It's the fun life!

On the weekends, we usually go to the coast.... chill, eat fish, sleep, read, .... yay!

The view from the upstairs bedroom...

The sea is not far...

The infamous sh*thouse... and showers!

Sometimes he does work.

After the day's work is done!

See you soon amigos!

It's the work life...

I am working quite a lot at the moment... getting to know Constru Casa, its work and its procedures. And of course getting to know all the people we work with... there are so many!
Here for example is Carlos, one of our masons. He is a very cheerful guy, and loves to play football after a lng day of construction work. He is so skilled by now that he builds a Constru Casa house in 8 days!

Here is his team, Manuel and Mario. Mario gave me some delicious deer he hunted in the mountains over the weekend. Mmmm....

Installed the door the wrong way around... sorry Carlos, go again!

Our roofs: Lamina Primium... haha.

This is Ranferí, our construction manager. I work most closely with him at the moment. He is a great guy, very funny, serious in his work, and very competent.

This is the latest house we have constructed, in Villa Nueva, Guatemala.

This is our newest construction in Las Pampas, on the coast of Guatemala.

Construction is finished, let's go!

And, as promised, a new image of my house! This is our front door:

Hasta pronto amigos!
